Last weekend, I had the opportunity to visit Joyce and my dad at their home in Sun City, Texas. Therefore, I thought it would be a good time to post an update as to how Joyce is doing and what she has been up to.
My 15-year-old son, Derek, and I arrived on Saturday afternoon while Dad was out running errands. Therefore, Joyce and I had time to catch up with each other on their patio amongst the lovely flowers and trees in their backyard. Joyce's wit and humor were as sharp as ever, even as she described the headache pains and balance issues that continue to plague her. It was also great to see how lovely their house is coming together with Joyce's knack for decorating... it has taken almost two years, but MOST of the boxes are unpacked and the house has very much become a warm and welcoming home!
We enjoyed a home-style dinner out at a local diner and then some ice cream and warm chocolate cookies before calling it at night! The next morning, Dad took the opportunity to go play a round of golf with my brother, Shayne, and my son, Derek. They enjoyed the morning out, and I enjoyed some more time visiting with Joyce.
Joyce has worked hard the last four months to revise and edit her first children's book, God's Little Sparrows. She has enjoyed the time working in her writing office that opens to their lovely back yard and has found great satisfaction posting God's Little Sparrows to this website to share with all of you. If you haven't had the opportunity to read this story, I think you will enjoy being a part of the sparrow family as they deal with real issues such as the sorrow of losing a loved one and the joy of having children of your own.
As for an update on Joyce's recovery and health, Joyce has fought hard to stay active and alert as she continues to be plagued by a persistent cough that zaps all energy from her body. Therefore, she battles fatigue which keeps her resting more hours in a day than she would prefer. She has so much she wants to do, but so little energy to accomplish these things, so it can be very frustrating! However, Joyce has strong faith and continues to believe that God has a plan for her in this life. And she will continue to battle these health issues and keep a positive outlook on life taking one minute at a time... one day at a time... and one task at a time to strive to reach for her goals.
Your sustained prayers are much appreciated by both Joyce and my Dad. And, they send their love and prayers out to all of you, too!
Sincerely,
Shalone

Thanks to Shalone from Joyce:
Dear Family, Friends and my
Faithful Prayer Warriors,
When I get to heaven I'll probably have to spend a large part of eternity trying to locate all the thousands of people who held my husband, me and our family up to God in prayer.
But before I do go on to heaven, I must tell you all that I had no idea what we would have done without the very thorough and dedicated work of one of our Texas girls...Shalone Heatherley Willms.
She's the one who's provided all the updates on my progress during the last five years.
Shalone is the wife of Fred Willms, mother of two very active kids, Derek and Rachel. She's heavily involved in all their athletic and school activities. Beyond caring for her family and home, she heads up the management for the entire computer program of Coppell High School in Coppell, Texas.
So, dear Shalone-Honey, here's our most loving "thank you" for your incredible influence on us, so many of our wonderful friends, and Balcony Publishing during the past few years.
We love you,
Joyce (and Doc) |
